Dealing with change will naturally create
dialogue which will raise difficult questions. Or, asking good
questions will open the door for dialogue which will bring to light
issues that need to be changed.
Dealing with change means dealing with
people in areas such as: risk, perception, order versus control, big
picture, values and creating a safe place. If these areas are not dealt
with, change will
not happen as people will fight it. Most people are willing to change,
they need help to know how to do it and understanding as to why they
should. Details
Dialogue is the hoped-for result of healthy
tension raised by change. It is what connects people at a value (heart)
level. It is a process that provides understanding and then wisdom to
know how to walk through change. It is an art and must be developed as
it is not natural for most of us. Key values for dialogue include:
Clear and valid information; people need to have a free and informed
choice; internal commitment and follow-up to the choice they make. Details
Questions are vital to leadership. They
empower others, define direction and focus, make space, release
creativity, expose our values and beliefs and often have emotions
linked to them. Learning to ask questions is a key part of successful
leadership. Details
